5ks Starting Noise

    My sister's '86 5ks is giving off a nasty noise after cold starts.  She
cranks the starter and the engine starts right up perfectly.  Although right
after the starter is stopped she gets this snapping, popping, crackling
noise for a second then it dissapears.  When the engine is warm the noise
isn't there.  Is this a starter problem?
    She did have a nasty Group7 filter, no control for oil flowing out of
the sump.  The noise was there before I changed the oil to Mobil 1 and gave
her a Mann filter.  It has progressively gotten worse/louder.  No starting
problems whatsoever though, cranks right up nice and happy.  Just the noise
is somewhat nasty sounding.  Anyone got any ideas?
