I am ordering a used 2-piece EM today to replace
my cracked 1-piece on the MC motor. I am thinking
of giving the thing a ceramic coating (under $50
to do) as one measure to keep it cooler and just
perhaps reduce the possibility of it warping or
cracking again. Do listers think coating it
would help by reducing the amount of heat the
 manifold absorbs?

BTW, the 1-piece manifold that came off on Friday
was really buggered. I got the car with under
100,000km on it and about 18 months ago it started
clicking when cold and started losing power. I
suspected the EM had cracked. On Friday I saw the
thing had already been welded and it has cracked
right along the weld. Also, the EM is cracked
on the inside where the runners come together
and enter the turbo. There is a huge
cracked along on the the 3 exits and the crack
is also apparent on the underside where these
outlets come together. Nasty. Hopefully the
2-piece I buy today will not be so severe and
the coating will help save it for a while.
To top it off one of the studs has broken off in
 the head. :(

Yes, ceramic coating the inside will reduce the amount of exaust heat
absorbed by the manifold and increase EGT (exaust gas temperature). Coating
the outside will help reduce underhood temperatures. IMO, both of these are
very valuable considering the relatively low price to ceramic coat. The do
it yourself kits like Ceramakote are even cheaper and work very well..
