winter tire data

Listers:

My request for information from Nokian bore immediate fruit. The following
is an [edited] response to some questions I submitted by Stacie Warrick of
nokiantyres@nokiantyresinc.com. Also, she sent me a useful chart (big
.jpg). It clearly shows the relative merits of the Nokian tires most likely
under consideration by us. If you are interested in a copy, please let me
know.

Stacie's comments follow:

As far as road noise. Both the Hakka Q and the Hakka 1 are going to give
you road noise, as will any other winter tire. It's not as bad as most.
The Q is a softer rubber compound, although it has stiff pattern blocks.
There are over 2,400 sipes in the tire and they are all cut down to the
last 32nd. So your tread pattern and effectiveness are
the same throughout the life of the tire, which should be at least
40-50,000 winter miles for the both the Q and the 1.

The NRW is our All Weather Plus tire. It's great for winter, but if you
are going to buy a winter tire in lieu of an all season or weather tire, I
suggest you get the Hakka Q. Also, if you don't plan on studding the Hakka
1, I suggest you get the Hakka Q.
