Energy input = energy output - law of thermodynamics. The turbo has
no fuel to burn. The energy input is heat (which it doesn't use and
is actually an embarrassment) and kinetic - gas mass times velocity.

Most of the heat dissipated by the turbo (by radiation, conduction into
the airflow around it, and to the oil and/or water passing through it)
has been absorbed from the exhaust gases. Some comes from friction
losses and air compression on the inlet side.

On a related subject - has anyone else ever seen a brown turbo?

I mean the outer cover on the 'hot' side - a light and _very_ uniform
honey brown colour. Is this a coating of some sort?
