Re: Any mods for front bumper grill ?
It's really called EXPANDED ALUMINUM. It's pretty easy to work with, however
there are drawbacks to the buy it, glue it and screw it method.
#1 It's not that easy to cut. The only reall GOOD cuts I've seen on expanded
metal (aluminum or steel) are made with a laser. You can get a piece cut from
your local metal or machine shop for a fairly resonable cost. (About $20 for
the size of that grill)
#2 Even the laser leaves a fairly sharp edge. I would prefer to have the
edges bent back forming a "lip" to use for mounting. Now you are talking
about a higher cost about $50 or so.
#3 You would have to take the bumer off to do the initial install.
With all of this in mind, I thought of adding (2) fog lights in ths area
obviously with cut outs in the new grill while it was beig made. After all
pondering was said and done, I figured I would wait until mine broke to spend
the money. I am, howver, interested in what you come up with. I would
especially like to see a picture. BTW the new TT grills and intake areas
started me on this whole train of thought. If you could get an upper grill of
the same material, it would really look sharp.
