Well, the first one is just the injector cooling fan duct ... nothing going
to get hurt by having duct tape on there. That other hose takes metered air
from the airbox to the turbo inlet ... and often gets cooked and brittle
from its proximity to the turbo. After replacing my original one to the
tune of ~$150 I decided to fashion a heat shield for it ... so far so good!
I think that Graydon Stuckey may have a source for the hose material (it
looks like the same stuff he uses(used?) for his IC => TB hose replacement
on the MC engines, just a different diameter. I'm pretty sure that hose is
still expensive, but you can rescue the metal part at the bottom end of the
hose you have and probably create a replacement for a lot cheaper than Audi
wants. This is what I have planned to do should I ever need to replace it.
Whenever someone comes to me with a complaint of a rough idling QTC, this is
the first hose I check for an air leak ...

Boy, I'm starting to feel like a broken record ... You can get the Owner's
manual from Dyment for $5. I think they have the Bentley too, but their
price isn't too good. Sometimes you can get the Bentley on special at
http://www.thepartsconnection.com/ or with the qlist discount at Carlsen
motorcars ...
