RE: Oil leak on 5ktq

Your oil leak is not necessarily from the oil lines..........

* It is possible that you are leaking oil from the intercooler and it is
being spread all around
* You could also be leaking hydraulic oil from your hose connection to the
steering rack
* You could also be leaking oil from your AC compressor, and while driving
it is being sprayed all over
* Check also the back of your valve cover, it could be leaking down from the
gasket
* Clean the suspected area real well and observe where the oil is coming
from

Most of the times (not always, of course) it is not the most obvious
culprit, (your oil lines and filter)
Good luck,
Take care,
Avi

Subject: Oil leak on 5ktq

I have noticed an oil leak on my 87 5ktq with 140k miles. It is around the
oil filter housing. I have replaced the oil filter and inspected the sealing
area, it's fine. The oil is on the back of the alternator, the positive
cable
bundle, both of the external oil lines and is hitting and smoking off of the
exhaust pipe where it bends and it's front is exposed. Any common places I
should look? Are the external lines prone to cracking at this mileage?

TIA,

John Katos
