Thanks to everyone who responded. Great advice. Turns out simple solution.
Now the repair question. I was able to see the limit switches. They all 
looked new and pristine, with no loose wires, worn cams, or adjustment, etc. 
How can I prevent future recurrence? Do I have to replace the entire 
mechanism (look really expensive)? It really does look brand new. After 
tripping the unoccupied switch, the roof closed via the motor. TIA
