Torsen Discussion Index

Here is an index to the torsen discussion so that those interested
can follow along.

awd - all wheel drive
4wd - four wheel drive
Cf - coefficient of friction
Cg - center of gravity
f/r - front/rear
r/f - rear/front
f/c/r - front/center/rear
U - understeer
O - oversteer
U-O-U - understeer-oversteer-understeer
LTO - lift throttle oversteer
LTU - lift throttle understeer
Tshift - torque shift
Chocholek - aka stan the man, Author of C368/88 for Gleason Corp.
Gleason - Zexel Gleason Corp, designer/manufacturer of Torsen diff
Torsen - the main subject of 3 years of discussion, the TORque SENsing
             differential
white paper - (1)marketing propaganda which looks like an engineering
technical paper, (2)available at grocery stores in 15
different
configurations which is used for cleaning oneself
spider bite - the U-O-U sequence of events when driving a Torsen center diff
quattro at the cornering limit, named after the spider
gears
which are present in the torsen differential
ego - see ongoing torsen discussion
poker - card game, currently being played with information from technical
           and white papers
tcs - traction control system
ESP - electronic stability program
ABS - antilock braking system
PSM - porsche stability managment, like ESP
LSD - limited slip differential
BR - bias ratio, the ratio at which the torsen diff can distribute torque
from
the front to the rear and vise versa, published values from audi are
78:22
WOT - wide open throttle
first generation locker - 1st gereration quattro system with manual diff
locks
WOB - waste of bandwidth
Trg - torque at ring gear of a given differential
VC - viscous coupling
EDL - electronic differential locking, distributes torque through open
differential
by using brakes and abs system.
CAN - controller area network
Haldex - device used in audi quattro system on TT and S3 cars with
tranverse
             mounted engines
LFQB - left foot quattro brakers, using left foot to brake car while keeping
right
foot on throttle to keep turbo engine producing boost
PSK - computer controlled 4wd system used on porsche 959
VCDL - Viscous Coupling Differential Lock, an open center differential with
concentric output shafts, one shaft connected to the rear diff
and
the other connected to a VC, the VC is not used until the rear
diff
            slips.
