Fuel pickup screen blockage (digest #495)

Clearing the old inbox this morning, and I noticed mention of a TSB
regarding fuel pickup screen blockage. Bosch/Porsche/VAG fuel systems
have a hard time with large amounts of alcohol in the fuel. We've seen
several cars with a large quantity of milky sludge that developed soon
after several tanks of "Gasohol". One 944 in particular required several
flushings with fresh gasoline to clean it out. Gas tank R&R on a 944 is
NOT a particularly viable option, the instructions should begin with
"take a week of your life". It would appear that alcohol is about as
desirable as MTBE, albeit for different reasons. One might be wise to
determine what's in the gasoline put in the car, and avoid "fuel
treatments" that contain alcohol.
