I'll bet you several beers that Audi's suppliers are told to deliver
tie rods, etc., preset to a specific length.  I'll also bet that the
same guys manufacture the wishbone and the ball joint, and deliver it
to the Audi line set at a specific length.  The only obvious variable
in production is Type 44 camber, which _HAS_ to be set when the strut
is installed into the car.

I know that BR Motorsport always stop an alignment and investigate if
an adjustment reaches the end of its travel, on the principle that there
must be something else wrong.  I was there one day just after they'd
done this, and there was an ur-quattro up on a post lift with four long
threaded rods screwed into its subframe bush mounts.  You could see
very easily that the chassis was twisted.
