RE: (JIM!) Consumer Edition CD-ROM coming from VESIS
Mark,
Thanks for the contact information I will give them a call.
The impression I have been given by the local dealerships is that adding
some one outside the dealership to their subscription would be a violation
of the agreement with VOA and AOA and the would incur some stiff penalties,
I.E. they are scared.
Speaking of stiff penalties ...
Yes I do work for ALLDATA and no I can not help you get a software key, I
could incur some stiff penalties. That would be contrary to company policy,
it also undercuts our business. Since ALLDATA pays me it does not make since
to cut into the profit margin it is kind of like taking money out of my
pocket. Not that I would not like to help people out, but it is business.
You might talk to your uncle and have him contact his Account Manager about
possibly getting a key for you. I don't know if it is an option or if it
would even read the old disc's but his account manager could answer those
questions. We also have individual CD's available and an Internet
subscriptions, you can check our web site if you are interested.
I work for the Database Development department and I am actually in charge
of the Audi Database and I have nothing to do with sales or marketing. I
follow this list, when I can find time, in hopes of picking up on bits of
info that are relevant such as the TT recall and your info on VESIS. I also
follow it because I am an Audi nut! I have owned 6 Audi's, 5 VW's and 2
Porsche's and spent 18 years as a full time Porsche/Audi technician at 3
dealerships and an independent repair shop. I still do some work for the
independent shop and a couple of friends but I am very selective in what I
undertake, I don't need to bath in CV grease any more or put in heater cores
except on my cars of course.
Take Care

Hi Jim. The VESIS help line is 1-800-423-1617 (Volkswagen
Electronic
Services). I talked to a nice woman there, but didn't get
her name. BTW,
this is the same company as Bentley- because I mentioned
that the Bentley
manuals are often wrong, especially with wiring diagrams.
She replied
something to the effect that "we are Bentley and we use the
same diagrams,
albeit updated from VW/Audi frequently." The other option
that I have and
might exercise is to subscribe to the VESIS service, if a
dealer will let me
add onto thier account. Once the first 3 terminals are paid
for (3 included
in the monthly subscription fee), then each additional
terminal is only $10.
or $15. per month (I have the Audi bulletin on it
somewhere). You might be
able to find it at "Http://tech.vw.com" (do not use "www").
I notice the "alldata.com" in your e-mail. What's the
chance you can get me
a deal on an extra "key" to utilize my uncle's expired CD's
(he owns a
service station in NYC and has been a subscriber for quite
some time- but
it's a pain to have him fax me up TSB's, etc.)? I'd greatly
appreciate any
help you might provide me there. I even took apart his
spare "key" to find
the circuit board with the identifying chip markings
scratched off. I could
reverse engineer it, but I never have time when I'm down
visiting. Well, it
would beat paying a subscription fee for something I might
use once per
month, max.
Let me know if I can be of any other help.
Best Wishes,
Mark Rosenkrantz
