4kq antenna and speed trap story
Hello Q-list:
Well the sound system upgrade for the Eurotrash Princess is unfolding nicely.
After dealing with the experienced idiots at Audio King, I gave up and ordered
directly from Blaupunkt. Now I've gathered all the pieces, except one: I need
an antenae mast, since mine is broken off about 6" above the base. I know Blau
sells the whole thing, but I don't need that. I called Anderson Motorsport and
a couple of dealerships but no luck. I even tried radio shack. The make of the
antena is Harada. Does anyone have any ideas where I might acquire just the
mast?
While I'm posting, I've just gotta share this story. I was driving home last
Friday night and was about six blocks from my house. I was going 35 miles an
hour down a hill, just after making an unprotected left hand turn. I always use
a little extra boost to get through that intersection since the traffic light
was set-up for the days when there was about 1/3 of as much traffic in my
neighborhood. The street I was driving down, Stinson Parkway is divided with
indentations for people to park so that it doesn't interrupt the traffic flow.
I've lived in this neighborhood for five years and its always been 35 all along
Stinson. All of a sudden I noticed that I've past a police car parked with his
lights off in one of the indentations. The Admiral Ackbar in me screamed: "It's
a trap!" I hit the brakes, but too late. My heart sank as I saw the spinning
lights in my rear view mirror. The cop asks me if I know what the speed limit
is on Stinson and I say 35. He says no, that it's been changed to 25. Then he
proceeds to give me a lecture about how this is a residential neighborhood and
they are always 25 mph. I reminded him that the very next street over is posted
at 35 mph. It is just as residential. I'm proud of myself that I did not say
what I was thinking, that particular street afforded no such cushy place for
lazy cops to sit and wait for speeders to fall into thier lap. I took my $87
fine I went home. I sat down and turned on the TV. The news had a story about
a woman who hit a kid because her brakes were bad. They said she got a fine for
faulty equipment. I looked it up on the back of my ticket--$20 less than mine.
Then they played the commercial for the A4 with the "Slower traffic keep
right." Aggggghhh. That's the last thing we Audi drivers need, to call
attention to ourselves as speeders.
So I've been obeying the law like crazy. I drive 25 down Stinson during rush
hour--about 15 mph slower than speed of traffic--and cause everyone to beep at
me and tailgate. Needless to say my dog, if I had one, would not think he was a
god.
I'm thinking of standing out on Stinson on Halloween with a sign that says, "Be
ware of the speed trap!" and if anyone bothers me I'll just tell them its my
costume: frustrated Audi driver.
