RE: '93 90CS steering wheel shake

Yep, had the exact same thing on my '93 90CSQ. It turned out to be bad
tires. The tread had separated from the carcass (In a very large way, I
could see it when they took it off, about 1/4" "squiggle" in the tire...).
New tires made it feel like a new car.

Hello All,

I really annoying problem has just begun with my '93 90 so I wondered if
anyone else has experienced this. When I'm driving at low speeds (20-30
mph) the steering wheel will start to turn back and fourth about 1-2
inches. As I increase speed, the steering wheel travel will shorten but
become more frequent with a slight shake developing. My first impression
was a wheel balance/alignment problem but the car doesn't really "shake"
like tire balance problems that I've experienced before or does it tug to a
particular direction like alignment problems that I've experienced. Then I
started thinking maybe a warped rotor. I've never dealt with a warped
rotor so I did some digging in the archives and found that a common symptom
is the break petal thumping or throbbing while increasing break pressure,
but I don't really experience this either. I did some crawling around
while changing the oil last weekend and noticed that both inner CV boots
are in bad shape. (anyone ever replaced these BTW? How
difficult/expensive?) Other than that, everything "looks" good.

Anyone had this problem before? I greatly appreciate any and all help.

Thanks,
Adam
