He suggested investigating this, and possibly installing some shims
somewhere between the mounting nut and the cupped washer which is just below
the upper spring retainer. And then just double check the torques
everywhere. But they admit that it is
possible (but not likely) that I have some off-spec bushings.

I would seriously doubt that a slightly off-spec bushing, that still fit
tightly?, would cause a clunking sound. I have heard a clunking as they
suggest, however, with loose struts that are intended for a spacer to be
installed. Also, I believe that the procedure that requires bushings to be
torqued with the weight of the vehicle only pertains to the stock rubber
vulcanized bushings. Delrin bushings have essentially no compliance to twist
with the suspension, thus, they pivot on a metal sleeve that goes through
them axially. You will find this if you disconnect the ball joint, and
notice that the control arm swings up and down freely. I would check
elsewhere in you suspension repairs for unnatural play. Are you positive
that the clunking comes from the a-arm area? If it is, then it only seems
right that Blau sends you a new set to be installed to see if it cures the
problem...
