FS: It's official, my highly modified '87 5k Tq
Hello fellow q-heads. It seems that the time has come to venture down another
road. I was given the chance to purchase an "S" car and after some coaxing
decided to just do it. I have looked at every possible option to keep both of my
cars but it just isn't going to be financially feasible. This is very hard for
me to even fathom selling my beloved steed that has taken such great care of me
over the last 5 plus years of meticulous ownership. I'll willingly admit that I
got carried away with the obsession of trying to make a 13 year old car look,
feel, drive and perform better that new which it now does very well. Regardless,
here are the details:
-Completely rebuilt, balanced and blueprinted MC single knock 7.8:1 comp.
motor.
balanced to lighter 200q flywheel and new clutch. All engine work done at Rods
Machine Shop in Colo. Spgs. This new motor has 11k mi on it.
-compression perfect on all cylinders, no leakdown through valves.
-S4 baffled oil pan
-Canton Racing (CM) oil filtration system-filters down to 8 microns or less
-All new rod/main/head bolts
-Port and polished head, match port to Dialynx
exhaust manifold, intake manifold ported and matched to head. All new valve
seats, guides, seals and 5 new injectors.
-New hydraulic lifters, 268 degree Piper camshaft, new valve springs and
retainers.
-8 valve VW adjustable cam gear-always left at 0 degrees, never
tweaked plus or minus as the car runs too well the way it is.
-Dialynx exhaust manifold with high temp nuts and
reinforced bracket. Dialynx flex joint coupling installed to allow movement
when the motor torques.
-K-24 turbo with rebuilt oil lines to and from turbo.
-Ur-q downpipe sized at about 2 5/8"-larger than stock 5ktq
-Full Stromung stainless steel 2 5/8" exhaust system with dual DTM tips.
Incredible sound, neither boomy nor resonates.
-TAP bypass valve re-routed back
into turbo inlet. Located on top of blue Samco t.b. to intercooler hose.
-New `91 200 single pass intercooler with 20 odd reinforcement clips on sides.
-Jamex cone filter conversion with full heat shielding from the turbo.
-fuel distributor modified to increase fuel flow.
-Rebuilt radiator fan
motor(in line fuse)with a lifetime sealed bearing and S4, 7-blade cooling fan,
new radiator.
-H&R springs with approx 1 1/4" drop, Koni Red inserts(they look
orange but these are the reds)
-TAP upper strut tie bar, new dust boots and
strut mounts.
-Ate Power Stop discs, Roefren carbon tech low dust pads,
stainless lines at all corners and Ate super blue racing fluid changed yearly.
All new wheel bearings.
-Wheels are A4 16x7" 45 mm offset with 10mm spacers for
the front wheels to move rim away from tie rod. New Dunlop sp 2000 tires
(comparable to sp 8000-just longer lasting) sized at 225/50/ZR16
-*possibly* available TSW Evos 15x7" 35mm offset with Yokohama Guardex 600
studless snow tires, 195/65/15
The following is a list of items that have either been replaced or rebuilt: New
hydraulic accumulator(bomb), new ZF power steering pump, ZF rebuilt rack, brake
master cylinder, slave cylinder, clutch master cylinder, blower motor, heater
core, radiator, all heater hoses, metal heater control valve, coolant reservoir,
turbo coolant pump, all temp sensors, switches, seals, alternator and starter,
chain exhaust hangers, e-brake cables, all 4 calipers. All subframe, swaybar,
control arm, and rear main bushings replaced$$$ strut mounts, trapeziodal
arms-both left and right, both tranny and motor mounts, center carrier bearing
for prop shaft, all CV's regreased rebuilt A/C programmer and A/C
compressor-blows cold air.
Exterior is at least a 9.5. Body is perfect, never been wrecked or been in an
accident. Rear quarter panels are flared about 1/2 to 3/4 inches to prevent
rubbing with 35mm offset rims. RR quarter was repainted only because the body
shop that did the flaring creased it slightly when they flared that side. Hood
was repainted just before Monterey as it had a few rock chips from our Colorado
winters. All other paint is original -the car looks absolutely fantastic. Satin
black metallic is what the original window sticker that I have reads. Car has
very subtle black side skirts-made to give it more of that Audi V8 look. These
are the same as Sarge's `91 200q featured in EC last year. It also has the J.C.
Whitney front lip spoiler seen on many 5k and 200's. It has a black stainless
steel sport grill incredibly well fabricated by my mechanic and has black Audi
rings. Full Euro lights with a *real* upgraded wiring harness and 4 relays with
80w/100w bulbs-absolutely incredible lights! Been a Colorado car its whole life
and 100% rust free.
Interior is next to 100%. Black sport seats with heaters and the alcantra dark
grey inserts.
Seats and side bolsters have next to 0% wear on them-no cracks or wear marks at
all. Quattro script black floor mats, A4 shift knob, Momo competition steering
wheel. VDO turbo boost gauge to 25psi installed on center console between seat
heater thumbwheels. Two new front window regulators. As noted above, this is one
of the best kept interiors seen by many. Car comes with both a car cover and
custom Colgan Bra. Sound system is Sony CDX-5180 CD player with a 50w amp
mounted in trunk. Tweeters in doors, Pyle speakers in doors. 10 speaker
system.
Car is very quick as G-tech numbers achieved at 6500ft elev with just better
than street starts-never any clutch dumping were 6.1- 6.2 secs 0-60 times. With
all mods, G-tech says h.p. at the wheels is 211 which would convert to
approximately 260h.p. at the flywheel given the 20% drivetrain loses and this
was with 14psi boost. The boost is controlled via a Greddy Profec B boost
controller. This clever device gets rid of the stock(slow) wastegate frequency
valve and is replaced with Greddy's own frequency valve. All boost is governed
by three knobs inside the cockpit. Boost response is much quicker, more linear
and most importantly, very consistent. The stock ECU is chipped with a TAP stage
II. I made a few runs last winter in the cold air at 19psi boost and never heard
pinging. The car felt unbelievable fast with this kind of boost. Also, the knock
sensor is still the factory safeguard if too much boost is detected.
I really wanted a fast, dead reliable and fun to drive 5ktq which it does all
too well. Many
parts that I replaced were not due to them wearing out but rather a preventative
maintenance type thinking or my decision to try and make it perfect. Not usually
the right way to do it but if you haven't figured it out, yes, I can be very
anal about my cars. Just about everything has either been replaced, rebuilt
and/or checked thoroughly. I wouldn't hesitate to jump into this car and drive
it cross country tomorrow. On the trip to Monterey and back, it used not a drop
of oil or water. Only Mobil 1 synthetic used in the new motor and Autobahn
phosphate free (blue) coolant as recommended. Car has 139k mi on odometer with
11k mi on the rebuild. All differential fluids changed twice with redline. I
luckily have what myself and many would consider to be one of the best Audi
mechanics in the states. Dave Jones of Revsport Motors has performed most of the
work, upgrades and repairs on this car and knows it like the back of his hand. I
have known him now for 10 years and he has worked on all 4 of my Audis. He is a
very good friend of mine and anyone that knows Dave can tell you that he is a
very fair, honest, standup guy. I would highly recommend him to anyone. I just
feel bad that he has spent so many countless hours as per my request making this
car perfect and so well dialled in only to be selling it. Sorry Dave. There are
lots of other items that I'm sure to have left out but for now, those are the
basics of the car. I don't nor will I ever regret doing any of the above
mentioned mods/work to the car. I'll always take great care of all my Audi's and
treat them in this same manner. That's part of the game for me. *Last year*
alone with the rebuild, repairs and upgrades, I've got receipts totalling $9871.
I spent this kind of money last year because I truly thought that I'd have the
car forever. Selling price is $8000 obo. Incredible car for the price asked. Am
I trying to recoup some of my investment? Hardly! This is a fraction of the
total amount spent on this car in the last 3-5 years. Many have seen the car run
at Steamboat and can attest to its performance. Also many saw the car at
Monterey. Does anyone have pictures of it that they would like to put up on
their web page;-) Until then, a `98 picture of the car just after the rebuilt
motor can be seen at http://members.aol.com/Audifest98/index.html I've got
pictures that I'd be glad to send you if you so desire. Everything painted red
is now powder coated RS2 blue. Also, the picture does not show the bypass valve
setup. I may be reached at (719) 527-4941-home, and (719) 963-4658-cell for any
further questions. Feel free to call Dave Jones-RevSport Motors @(719) 471-4103
for any questions also. I'll be in Dallas this weekend for a wedding, please
leave a message. I think I'll go get sick now. Sorry this post was so long
winded.
