If I recall correctly, there is a stop on the window regulator itself
that adjusts the window height.  It's a threaded piece with a 10mm
adjustment nut and a teflon "hat" on it that stops the regulator from
going too far up.  The grommets that follow the channels and go through
the glass are there to keep the window from popping out and over the
rubber seals.  Since the glass isn't square and doesn't ride a channel
all the way up, it needs these guides to keep it in place.
