This may be true about it all being wood however in the 89 model the veneer 
is so thin and the gloss finish so thick and defective that it cracks and 
even hunks of it fall off the dash.  BTDT
Friend of mine bought an 89 turbo and let it set for a year before he 
replaced the motor.  The gloss finish cracked so bad pieces fell off.  
Naturally it was cheap (ha) from Audi.  Took us for ever to find a parts car 
with good wood? trim.  The 90 and 91 (with air bag) is mounted totally 
different than the 89 crap and is all wood instead of veneer attached to a 
steel back plate
