Re: driveshafts
After doing the center bearing (along with motor/tranny mounts, trap bushings,
rear tie rods and wheel brngs) I've got a significant vibration 28-38 mph and
less present all higher speeds. I reduced it a lot by shimming, but have the
feeling the mech didn't index the driveshaft correctly when reassembling. Its not
horrible, like it was when I first picked it up, but its irritating and makes me
loathe to push the car.
Most places I've called say they don't have the end flanges to set it up
correctly.
When I had my GTO driveshaft professionally done years back the guy said slightly
out of balance driveshafts are one of the main sources of bad behavior in a car,
and the last place people look. A rock or two, significant rust and it can be
out.
We're going to get it back on a lift tomorrow and play with it some more. In the
meantime I'm looking for another as an all else fails.
