Re: auto-trans questions

Several folk on the list were skeptical about Militec. So was Al Powell.
But he tried it in his 200 with an auto trans and it helped clean up the
shifting problem and kept it in good condition for a while. There are several
products that make similar claims and I think most of them will not hurt if
they don't help. I've used a couple different ones including the one you
mentioned. There's another one we tried in my son's car, but I can't recall
the name. The only place that sells it around here is a chain parts place
that managed to piss me off (severely), so I don't go in there anymore. If I
did I'd look it up....
All of the products have claims for helping clean and/or lubricate the
inner works on the slushboxes. The cleaning portion helps loosen up the crud
that causes the valves to stick. The lubricants help keep them moving freely.
Slow moving valves mean slow shifts.
Based on what I've seen of Militec and similar products, the results you
describe are pretty much the opposite of the norm. But, I wasn't there and I
suspect you know whether the trans shifted quicker or slower. Just sounded
odd. Oh, well...

    Later.

<<Now, Militec, I highly advise against it. Left two of my transmissions in
*severe* slipping conditions. Softens shifts and they gradually go into
undetectable. I would recommend a product that I've used successfully for
years with no ill effects. It's made by Solder Seal/ Gunk products. Called
trans-medic, I believe. Simply a friction modifying additive with no
sealer. good stuff, noticeably tightens the tranny shift quality. use this
on the third replacement. ~$3.00.>>
