Re: Seat Heater Testing

Scott,

I have an '86 4KCSQ in which I struggled with these issues. After a lot of
figuring, lots of help from Huw Powell, and many trials and tribulations, I
got this done. Afterwards I documented what I could and Huw was kind enough
to publish it on his website (URL is at the end of this email).
===================

My seat heater stopped working this morning. The passenger one works, but
not
the driver's side. I removed the connector from under the seat and tried to
test for voltage. I followed the wiring diagram in the Bently, but I'm not
sure of one of the wires. I get 12vdc between the Black w/ Wht stripe and
brown wires, but I get no voltage from the Black w/ Yellow stripe to any of
the other pins. Is this correct ? Looking at the diagram, I should get 12vdc
on the Blk/Yell, shouldn't I.
.......................When the plug is disconnected, or the thermostat
circuit has a fault, the relay will not close and therefore there will not
be voltage to the heater circuit.

Is there another way of troubleshooting the seat heater without taking the
seat apart. Can it be ohmed out ?
.............Yes, at the seat plug. The heater circuits (bottom & back)
should have near 0 resistance. The thermostat circuit should have some
resistance (don't remember the value but it is on Huw's site).

Where can I get the specs?

HTH - Follow up questions are most certainly welcome. (jeffgold@erols.com).

Good luck,
