Thanks
Fellow Listers,
Thanks for all the info and direct help with my 5000CS tq. I have been ashamed to report on the progress of various problems because my progress is so SLOW! Slow, but determined.
Most importantly, the new wastegate diaphragm successfully solved my overboost problem! Now it appears I have an underboost problem (.9-1.1), but that can wait and I have been following news on lots of things to check. :>)
The good partof the story is that I "wowed" the only "european specialist" in town. I had been to them for advise before learning of the list-serve wearing my mechanics outfit (dirty levi's and wife-beater undershirt) and was all but ignored. All they could say was; "When would you like to make an appointment?" This time, I waltzed in wearing clean khaki's, polo shirt and suede bucks, carrying the wastegate wraped in a towel. The reception was entirely different than before!
I went there because I needed help getting a grip on the bottom slot while trying to undo the top nut, and I was tired of chasing the thing around the driveway with my skrewdriver and socket. I figured that they had done this kind of thing before, as I have seen turbos parked out front. So, I told the guy what he was looking at, and asked if he could help. I expected to leave the thing and come back the next day to pay for an hour's labor. Instead, he told me to come with him, and we went into the shop and rebuilt it together!
To those of you who are mechanics, or who know them, this story isn't much, but for us guys who have been trying to own good cars and keep them running on a shoestring, this was a dream sequence. The place was clean and orderly etc....Much better than the gas station shops I have been in allowed to roam. :>)
So, he was very friendly and explained that he didn't know that they could be rebuilt. This list serv must slowly be educating the world :>) ("Six Degrees of Seperation") Turns out the guy had found a cherry '85 5kst last year, but after a few months was T-boned and had to total it.
That's it. Selling a 1987 Chrysler LeBaron Convertible turbo Mother-in-law Special. I intend to put at least some of the money into the Audi. Unfortunately, Chrysler prices aren't really going through the roof. Any advice on selling in these internet-intensive days? Auto trader isn't really cutting-edge anymore.
Danke,
Cassidy Bolger
