RE: V8 Axle needed
I am hoping to find a source for a V8 Quattro Right front axle, new or
used.I have a problem that would easily be solved by a CV joint kit, which
ofcourse is not made available for the V8's. And $800 from the dealer is
notacceptable. I have looked into other sources, but no luck so far. I
needto get the car winter ready, so any help is greatly appreciated.
I got one from carparts.com
Took about two weeks because of a mix-up from vendors, but did get it and
was about $62.00 plus core.
MAKE SURE you find if it is in stock.. All suppliers list these things, but
rebuildable cores are hard to find. Most other parts supply houses will
list the V8 also, but the in stock problem may exist. Make sure they call
the supplier to check availability. Prices seem to run from $60.00 to
$120.00 depending on vendor. This is the easiest way to replace the CV
joint.
Two tips.. Make sure you have the right wrench for the inner joint. (triple
square, 12 point, or VW axle wrench) depending on parts house and also,
make sure you loosen and tighten axle bolt when the tire is on the ground,
otherwise wheel bearing failure will result..
