Save you a trip
Hi all:
Went next door from work to the VW dealer to use the 'fiche reader, I have
an old 87 parts 'fiche and needed the pn for the plastic trim around the
quarter window I am replacing (note to list: it's the skinny _trailing_
edge trim that gets destroyed when replacing a quarter window, not the
leading edge). Have the Family Pictures but have not successfully loaded
it at home yet.
Anyway, Glenn the parts guy asked me why I needed the part number and I
told him I was ordering it from Carlsen in California. I stopped short
when he said "Well, if you've got a good part number, I can order it
through our system even though it's an Audi part. You just pay a 10 per
cent penalty for going out of the system. And if it is a part shared by
Audi and VW models, you pay the lower VW price."
He reminded me I have to have a good Audi part number, he can't look it up
since it's a stand alone VW dealer, not a VW/Audi dealer.
I did not know you could do this, and wanted to pass it along to those of
you who don't have an Audi dealer nearby but do have a VW dealer. Don't
know if it applies nation/world wide but it's worth a try.
I'll still use Carlsen, but for the misc. tidbits I'm gonna visit Glenn.
Or the junkyard.
