RE: coupe tail lights - about time!

Huw and the list

This has got me thinking, I was driving behind a both a URQ and a normal FWD Coupe last week and I noticed that when the brake lights went on two bulbs lit up on the bottom of the tail lights. On my '85 Coupe Q only the outer light, lights up when the brakes are applied. Does anyone know if there was a change from earlier cars to this later setup which is preferable.

TIA

Iain

Subject:	coupe tail lights - about time!

About 9 mos ago I fought hard with my tail lights to get them all to
work at the same time. the promise to myself was, if they ever stopped
working right again I would re-engineer the stupid connections to the
clusters, or *something*!

Well, my right side brake light started going on vacation again.

In the mean time I have come into a harness from an 87.5 and had a
chance to look real closely at the differences.

the early Coupe 10 pin connector is a two piece thing, and on the left
side it depends on the pin of the cluster to get juice from the incoming
wire to the outgoing wire, for the right side lights. A forever
headache keeping this working, the cluster is enough of a pain.

The later connector is one piece and the right side wires are crimped
right into the sockets along with the left side wires, so no continuity
problems exist this way.

Instructions:

Solder and heat shrink six wires, leave a little pigtail with a
connector on it for the third brake light wire (if you want to add one)
and it's done.
