Nick,
Sounds like you've done this right. From Audi's "official" explanation (and
we know what that's worth) and my examination of a disassembled autocheck
(probably more accurate), the autocheck does seem to measure current, and
is happy when both draws are the same
I've done the exact same conversion on my 86 5K, and autocheck is perfectly
happy. Roger Bouilly did this conversion on his 91 200, and had this exact
problem which he subsequently solved, but he didn't tell me how.
Change in specification/operation of autocheck early vs. late?
If not, look for wiring error, or perhaps a different bulb is out?
Autocheck also checks the tail or brake lights, I seem to remember.
