3-inch exhaust system on 200...
Hi!
I believe there are some folks on the list who have a
3-inch exhaust system fitted to a Audi 5kt or 200.
I was planning on having a larger downpipe built for
my 200 to increase bore from 57mm to 76mm and get,
apparently, a quicker spool up on the K26 and get
some extra power out of it.
Someone with a A3 1.8T has had a stunning custom job
done on his car to increase diameter to 63mm and tells
me the resonance can sometimes be something awful at
certain points in the power band. Heeding his words I'd
like to find out what the sound is like in the 200
with a 76mm/3" downpipe and exhaust system.
What are the measurable gains over stock?
Any figures on noise over stock?
Would it be adviseable to be more conservative and opt
for a 63mm/2.5" system? How much less gain is there in
this? What about noise levels?
I suppose there are more 2.5" systems on the list than
3". Since the size increase is only .25" is there any
point in doing the downpipe then?
The plan is to open up exhaust to 3", use 3 silencers
(if I recall correctly now) as in the standard setup,
and perhaps fit a final bullet silencer and resonated
tip. It will be mandrel bent.
Sorry for WOB.
