... it just so happened that I came across the message I'm attaching from
Frank Bauer when I was looking into the shifter rebuild parts ... upon
further review of my archives it seems that Frank has replied to similar
requests several times ... here is the most recent version ...

there is no rebuild kit but these are the parts necessary to rebuild the
shifter on my 86 tqw (all from "the family album" mg 7 sg 11 ill 61-00):

i did my short shift kit in two stages.
first i replaced the shift lever on the selector shaft (couple of inches
long with a half inch ball stud on it) with the shorter, later model shift
lever.

about $50.
this has the effect of shortening the fore/aft throws.
then when i was rebuilding the shift mechanism during a clutch job, i took
off the shaft that snaps onto this ball and modified it.
there is another, smaller ball stud on top of this shaft which i raised
about 15 mm, effectively reducing the side-to-side throws.
$20 or less at a welding shop.
