I outran a police 850T earlier this year - I posted about it at the
time.
I'd been stopped five times in December, mostly for the heinous crime
of driving at night in Leicestershire. This is a similar crime to the
London crime of driving an expensive car while black. You get pulled
over. Frequently.
Anyway - no charges, no fines, no points. And I just got bored. So
when a police Volvo pulled out of a lay-by it had been inspecting and
started to accelerate hard (I saw the headlights waving up and down) I
decided I wasn't interested. I was stone cold sober, had been doing
nothing illegal, and the car had been checked five times by officers
desperate to find something wrong with it. I'd seen the police car as I
passed the lay-by (at a legal speed) and so I knew exactly what it
was.
So I dropped into third at sixty and legged it. I'd lengthened the
quarter mile or so to three-quarters by the time he started advertising,
and I was out of sight in another fifteen seconds. Normally they radio
ahead, but I know there are only two cars on duty in the area at that
time of night.
I wish they'd go and catch the odd rapist every now and then, instead
of hindering upright citizens going about their lawful business.
