Good buy on used part

Friends, an unsolicited testimonial -

I unfortunately screwed up the spiral spring behind the steering wheel in my
1990 200. I learned that when you remove the steering wheel, it is CRITICAL
if you get into that tape-like spring, so make 100% sure that it is not crushed
or crossed over itself when you re-pack it into its cavity.

I messed it up and the spring ate itself within 48 hours. Dealer cost (I am
informed by Joel Wasserman at SelecTTRA) is about $300. Yikes!

I I spent about 2.5 hours on the phone last weekend going through the Q-list
vendor page and looking for a wrecking yard part. When I was about to give
up, a California place recommended that I call Dad's Auto Dismantling at 1-
800-321-3237 or 800-635-3622. (Rancho Cordova, CA).

I found out that they only sell the spiral spring complete with the steering wheel
- but they only ask $85 for the assembly! SOLD. I received the wheel on
Wednesday and it was in as good or better shape than the one in my 200 -
and the swap was a snap. You best believe that I did NOT open up that spiral
spring area - I just installed it and made sure nothing came apart.

So as far as I'm concerned, Dad's Auto Dismantling is worth calling!
