TDC Mark Problems, Confusion
I have been trying to get the flywheel mark visible for some time today.
I have aligned the mark on the crankshaft pulley. I then removed the timing
belt cover and checked the mark on the camshaft pulley. I must be not
catching part of the procedure because as pictured in the Bentley the mark
on the camshaft pulley should be on the other side of the cylinderhead when
the crankshaft pulley is at TDC. Pictured in the Bentley: the crankshaft
pulley mark is centered, the flywheel mark at "0", and the camshaft pulley
mark is lined up with the driver's side of the cylinderhead. What I see on
my engine is: the crankshaft pulley mark is centered, no visible mark on the
flywheel, and the camshaft pulley mark is lined up with the _passenger's_
side of the cylinderhead.
This is the first time I have really checked anything involving timing
before. I am thinking about removing the distributor cap and see where the
rotor is pointing. I am confused or is my engine completely timed
improperly. I had a good local shop change the cam more than 1 1/2 ago with
a bunch of seals and bearings. Could they have gotten the mark on the wrong
side of the cylinder completely tossing the timing off? Although that would
really funk the engine, and probably not possible to even run the engine
like that. What I am missing, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks!
