The 86 4000 doesn't actually have the same engine as the Scirocco.
The 86 Scirocco as sold in the US is the low-compression 90hp unit
(same as the the 83-84 GTI).  The 85-87 4000 on the other hand has
the high compression 102hp unit, with knock sensing ignition.  The
equivalent engine is used in the 85-87 VW GTI/Jetta GLI.  The 87+
Scirocco went to a 16V motor so it's different again.

No harm there either.  Except I (and many of my friends) have the
opposite opinion about which sounds better.  Some of the VW guys
consider a swap to the Audi chime an enhancement...  The VW chime
is real cheesy-sounding to me, like a ice cream van siren.  The Audi
chime is more soothing sounding...  Well I guess I each his own.
