Brett brings up a good point. It could be either, but I would not rule out
the possibilty that this car was targeted. Somone may not like your wife!
Anyways, Brett is right for the most part that proffessional car thieves
usually steal certian cars that are HOT and can move quickly. I don't know
what cars are on this list now, but a few years back it was any Chevy
Camaro/Firebird/Trans Am, Mustang 5.0's, and stuff like that. Mostly due to
it being common, in high demand, and VERY easy to steal. Any crook with a
hammer and a long flathead screwdriver could steal one. I doubt things have
changed much though and I bet Mustangs, Camaros, and probably domestic sport
utes are the most popular today.
Audi doesn't fit into that catagory! But, then again criminals are usually
not the brightest people on earth. My dad had his car broken into for an
old radar detector which you can buy on ebay for $20! Anyways, it is a
possibity that someone saw a bright red nice german car and said "lets steal
it" and then later came to find that no one would give them money for it
because it was too rare and too risky, so they torched it.

That's nothing! The South Carolina Highway Patrol has a BMW M5! It was a
special gift from BMW GmbH when they built the plant in Spartanburg. Termed
as a "High Speed Pursuit Veicle", but I think it is only used in parades and
inaugeral events and stuff like that.
In Georgia, the Highway patrol was given a lot of new BMW 3-series cars for
the 1996 Olympic games (which BMW was a large sponsor), but thanks to
politics and that same good ol boy geniosity, they gave all of them back in
favor of BUYING Crown Vics with our tax money. That pisses me off. The
BMW's were FREE! Keep em! Bunch of brain dead morons.
Someone has on thier web site a picture of a 4000CS Quattro police car.
Apparently the Audi dealership gave it to the town of Burlington, VT seeing
as how they needed good winter cars up there. And, in Vail, Colorado, the
police (I believe) drive Saabs! Can't have anyone driving measly Fords in
Vail! ;^)
