Another Audi back on the road...

Hello all. Just wanted to spread the good news. After more than a year
of sitting, and 2 or so weeks of enduring me and my Craftsmans, there is
now another Quattro roaming American roads.

I was fortunate with the clutch situation. The PO told me it needed a
clutch. Very non-specific, so I expected the worst. After a little
common-sense testing, I came to the conclusion that I disagreed. I
instead replaced the clutch master and slave (with thanks to MegaParts,
in NJ - HIGHLY recommended), bled the system, and that was that. Moved
under its own power for the first time (for me, anyway).

I looked into doing the timing belt, but lost nerve after reading
archives and just reassembled the whole thing with 3 new accessory
belts. I'll perhaps try the TB after some familiarity with the car and
once the Bentley is on my bookshelf. Changed the oil and filter, put air
in the tires (3 were flat on the ground, the other low), and I've been
driving it exclusively since Saturday. Probably 200 plus miles by now,
and no major problems. The interior is ug-leee, but usable. The seat
heaters don't work, nor does the "secondary" radio display on the dash.
The oil pressure gauge always reads maximum - pegged to the right. Never
worked. The oil temperature gauge barely moves from the minimum (if at
all). The coolant temperature gauge worked fine the first few times I
ran the engine, but has now quit for good. It does not read at all now.
***Experienced listers*** a question: is this just a series of
individual old sensors gone bad with time, or is this that
"multifunction sensor" I've heard discussed from time to time? I'll play
in the archives to see what I can find.

There's also a throttle lift-off problem (see next post, RE:Rick Hunt),
although I did see 1.4 bar once, and can get 1.2 with little drama.

Once I get and look through the "family album" I'll post another list of
the parts I need, this time with part numbers.

My initial impression of this car is that it has very little in common
with the 5ks Automatic I had some 10 years ago.

A special public thanks to Mike Murphy - your efforts and help are much
appreciated. Also to Justin Grant, John Larson, and Frank Bauer. Thanks,
guys!

A proud owner, driver, and q-lister,
Shaun Folkerts
