CV joint price - good info for Canadian listers
Well the wife has not been taking very good care of her side of the car
and she didn't notice that her front outer cv boot was split... :)
Anyway, the joint is shot. Major clicking on turns and one of these days
its gonna blow apart on me when I'm doing something silly (like trying
to blow the doors off a 5 litre Mustang). So I started shopping around.
Went straight to the web and got the following:
Bowwow (yes, Bowwow a British Columbia company specializing in VW, Audi
and Japanese)
lists an "outer cv joint & kit, no ABS" for $437.95 Canadian $(OUCH!!)
Carparts.com
lists several manufacturers (Moog, Precision, Perfect circle)
outer CV joint & boot kit range from $169.50 to $225.45 US$
Blaufergnugen
rebuilt front drive shaft (I am assuming this includes inner and outer
CV) for the 5k is $159.00 US$ (no mention of core charge)
Then I called a friend at the local UAP/NAPA dealer and he got me a
complete rebuilt front axle including shaft, inner CV, outer CV, boots,
CV grease and completely assembled AND A LIFETIME WARRANTY for...
$135.00 Canadian$ (that's about $90 for those of you south of the
border)
When he first quoted me this price, I thought he was quoting me just the
axle shaft, with no CV. He actually got a bit upset at me cause I
wouldn't believe him. Well, I picked up my new, completely assembled
front axle today, and paid $135 plus taxes and $75 core charge (which I
get back when I bring my old one in)
This seems like a really good deal to me.
