First Drive 4ktq (12 lbs boost?!?!?!)

Well, I drove the 4ktq for the first time this weekend. No front end
(fenders etc yet) but took it around the property on the dirt roads.
FUN!!!! Descrives it best. The Throttle linkage is still a rinky Dink
setup consisting of a hose clamp. :-) but it works, sortof. Although I
really need to get that done before driving on public roads. I can only
get about 3/4 or a bit more throttle out of it. maybe more but not 100%.
Even so, I'm getting 12lbs boost from a Stock KH. Well, heads are ported
but AFAIK the WG is stock. Can I check the spring somehow??? What else
could cause this??? Broken WG Freq Valve??? if its stuck on one cycle
could it cause this??? or maybe a broken WG Diaghram???
so options are??? Do I just put in a WG Freq Valve from an MC
engine. (I have one of those handy) If so does the polarity of the 2-pin
connection matter??? Secondly, if its the WG Diaphram then can I use the
ur-q or 5kytq WG. I would think I could. although the ur-q Wg owuld
still give like 12 lbs of boost right?? I dotn have an Intercooler YET so
I cant run around with 12lbs boost.
Getting a Air/Fuel Mixture gauge in mail this week. I'll hook it
up before any more (test Runs)
Anyhow, report are good besides that. Car is fast (obviously
compared to the stock form) and the pull of the ported KH motor with 8.5:1
compression is very good. in the 2,700 lb car it moves better off bost
than a 5ktq. But gearing is much better as is weight and the compression
may make up for the smaller size. And maybe the port4ed head makes up for
head flow deficiencies. Anyhow, its responsive, and the turbo spools
relatively quick. It builds a couplle lbs boost as low as 2,500 RPM but
ownt build full boost till around 3,500.
90q springs in back make for anice stance. its gigher than stock
and higher than the front. So with 150lbs of AC and Battery missing (but
50 more lbs of turbo stuff) and the battery in the trunk it sat REALLy
Nose high before. Now the front is still just a tad higher than stock but
the rear is higher than that. noticably stiffer but the car ate up the
dirt roads I was on. Boy, I really need to get this thing finished so I
can drive it.
Only other complaint is cold start. But, I dotn ahve the cold
Start Valve hooked up yet (anyone know if I can sue the 4kq's cold Start
wires from the 4kq harness??? Im guessing not but curious what others
have done.) But even so it should start better. Wierd. I'll have to
look into this more.
Thanks everyone for your help. I'll update my Web Site over
Christmas with pics and data on the conversion. Someone out there has a
Turbo Conversion Site with a Yellowo Background that has sat unchanged for
years. I'd love to copy the code as a base for mine and update the info
where possible and add pics, diagrams, etc. I'll have to track down the
guy though. Going back to page after I get my car done.
