... say again?! In one sentence you say that the pistons would be good to
keep around and then the next you talk about "better" ... ??? If the WX
isn't good enough to keep in the car, what value do the pistons have at all?
>From my point of view there are two advantages of the WX engine as compared
to the MC. First the static compression ratio is lower, which should mean
that you could get more power at a given boost level. Second, and by far
more important to me, is the fact that the WX engine has solid lifters.
I'll gladly go out and adjust my valves every 15K miles and have the piece
of mind that I'll never have the engine start sounding like something is
wrong with it!
What I would like to do with my car is to change over the ECU to be
something like a MAC-11, so that I can add the WGFV for boost control and
knck sensing in the ignition. It should then be possible to go to a newer
technology turbo (perhaps like one of the ceramic bearing jobs that Ron Wood
has discussed) and have a pretty potent motor that still looks and behaves
like the engine in a 1983 Audi Quattro Turbo Coupe come smogcheck time. I
seriously doubt that I will have time to actually do this any time in the
forseeable future, but it is nice to dream.
