Re: HELP Before my tranny dies
Hi Scott;
Your drivetrain will not instantly self-destruct with the CAM2 oil in
there, but I would definitely change out the tranny oil to the synthetic.
The synthetic oils have better flow at low temperatures and better viscosity
stability at high temperatures, so they do a better job of protecting the
components when you first start driving and when the components are heavily
loaded. The synthetic oil in the tranny should improve shifting and reduce
synchro wear. I have a hazy recollection that the specified G50 oil for the
tranny is a GL4 spec, not GL5. Audi usually has a good reason for specifying
lubricants and it is prudent to comply with the specs.
The rear diff oil can be conventional or synthetic. The spec is GL5
SAE90 - the 75W90 might be a little on the light side. Personally, I'd use a
synthetic here as well.
