The current Audis (including the '00 S4) actually do have
"traction control" on its quattro models. It's called EDL
(electronic differential lock). The mechanism is pretty much
the same as normal traction control -- it uses ABS wheel sensors
to detect wheel spin and apply selective braking to the spinning
wheel. The works from side to side on each axle. Between
the front and rear axles, the Torsen differential does the work.
