Adjusting Throttle Cable for AT w/ accellerator question
I adjusted the throttle cables today and was wondering if anyone else
has done this on an auto trany car lately. I did the procedure as Bentley
describes except I used some crude instruments since I don't have the proper
bits. Used a piece of bungee cord to hold the throttle at full, a deck of
cards(exactly 17mm thick) underneath the accellerator and a sledge hammer to
hold pressure on the pedal. I was able to move the main throttle cable back
two notches from where it was originally and the cable down to the AT was
moved slightly back as well. I took the 80 for a drive and checked the
shift points and there are within spec. Although something that has been
strange with my car is still there, but a bit worse.
When I touch the accellerator gently the engine revs a bit from idle,
then if I touch a TINY bit more the rpms go from around 1,000rpm to
1,500rpm. I can barely hold the engine anywhere between 1,000rpm and
1,500rpm with my foot. Seems that after I adjusted the cables that range
has extended a bit past 1,500rpm. What is causing this? Or just a normal
quirk of my car?
Thanks!
