I had the same problem this year in the 87. The shop I deal with got one for
me for $35 and it actually fit better than the OEM as it cleared the little
mike at the top of the windshield post for the hands free part of the cell
phone. Matches the interior and best of all it doesn't fall down everytime I
go over a bump.
I tired everything that I could think of on the original, but I could not
find a way to tighten its grip on the bar. I did see one with velcro on the
roof, but can't attest to how well it works.

unless you want to open up the fabric and somehow fix the now-relaxed
plastic clamp thing... no, no fixes.
others have suggested velcro and just plain old bolting it to the roof...
but I am a proponent of the search-the-boneyard method.
