Sublisting
As a member of the torsen list, a summary to date for both lists. First, a
thanks to Dan Simoes for all his efforts in setting up the torsen list. A
separate wrestling mat for torsen related topics gets a collective sigh. (to

A week of some good nerding immediately brought to the mat, several formulas
and methodologies that were explored mathmatically by the more nerdy of our
group (thanks to our resident rocket scientist Dave L:). An in depth look at
885140 in terms of math used to present the data provided even more insight
into both 885140 and other presentations of the center torsen in a quattro.
That understanding was somewhat hindered by one member of the torsen list.
However, *all* members of said list were *open* to discuss ANY relevent
documentation applied to torsens. What we found was quite telling. It
appears that a bunch of the documentation on the center torsen, is
incomplete, oversimplified, or just plain misleading.
Our NZ member brought to the nerds, a bunch of *formulas* and givens that
"supported" his position that a torsen is locked (no axle slip) before the
Bias Ratio. Although somewhat benign in concept, this became a quick focul
point in the torsen debate.
A review of the torsen archives will show, that all members of the list were
open to any input, but that surface level *facts* needed more depth, since
much (if not all) of the published data, had errors or omissions contained
within. So, Dave L "did the math" in fig 6 of 885140, so we could come to an
agreement that the axles do slip before the BR. Dave E held strong, that
what we were arguing couldn't be. When the list pressed him for more depth,
we didn't get any. So Dave L presented Dave E's argument in terms of math,
and found that the results were not valid. To either Dave E's BR plotting
chart, OR to 885140.
This made us press Dave E harder for better answers (and his math) to support
his claims. That wasn't done, the list insulted, then abandoned. A grand
loss? Naw, just an interesting study in the human behavior.
The torsen list will continue, and we welcome new members and ideas. Be
warned, it gets nerdy, and concepts get churned quickly by the number
crunchers. What gets spit out, is ego and BS. And rather quickly, it
appears.
Thanks for the opportunity
