tranny search (formerly $#!@ i can't afford this)
thanks to all of those who have responded - anybody who would like to
continue to do so regarding alternates/parts they would like to sell me,
please continue to do so, as this problem is far from solved. here is what
i have found so far:
one person has offered me a stock unit, but it is a little out of my price
range - thanks again to that person. another has advised me to look into a
box from an 85-87 4kq, which has the vacuum actuated locking diffs instead
of a torsen. this is an interesting possibility, but i do not know how i
could attractively put the locking switch in my interior (i know it may
sound like a small thing, but i spend a lot of time in my interior). i am
also concerned with disabling my ABS when i lock the center diff - i don't
want to forget.
here is what i think may be the frontrunner in my search - i would
appreciate any input on it.
i found a tranny from a 92 s4 for sale that i can afford. i have some hope
that i can use it, as the S4 was a 5-cyl like my 80q, right? would i be able
to fit that unit into my 1990 80q? furthermore, might that even be an
upgrade? is the S4 tranny geared better for sport driving?
