RE: Reuse of head bolts ...

Just had my head (and a few other things) done and the bolts were reused.
Have since put on about 5K Km with no problem and regular runs at 1.5/6 bar
(at which point the overboost cutout engages (installed a little washer in
the waste-gate). Most comments I've received on this same question indicate
that i) the bolts are ok to reuse and ii) the factory bolts are quite strong
enough for most street engine use up to the 1.8 Bar levels.

Subject: Reuse of head bolts ...

I thought I'd post a request for experience/opinions here ...

It looks like I'll be bolting a head on my WX temporarily so that I can have
the car ready for Laguna Seca while the upgraded replacement is prepared. I
have always replaced head bolts even though Bentley says that they can be
reused once. Since I know the bolts that are there have only been used once
(as I installed them) and since I know this is a temporary situation I'm
thinking that I will reuse the bolts that I have. Has anyone done this in
the past and had good or bad experience to share? TIA!

I probably should consider Raceware studs when I do the upgrade ... but my
concern is a lack of knowledge of the proper way to install and tighten
them. They are not "stretch" bolts like the factory ones. Does anyone
_know_ the proper procedure for use of the Raceware studs in an Audi turbo
head? I assume that you have to check the torque on them some time after
the engine has been run, how many miles/hours? TIA again!
