Discount Tire is the retail chain (www.discounttire.com) and Discount Tire
Direct (www.discounttiredirect.com) is the mailorder division ... although
they are both owned by the same person/family, they are totally separate
corporations and have separate corporate offices and separate warehouses.

This doesn't always work, as it depends upon the particular store and/or
store manager ... BTDT. Although there are three Discount Tire stores within
five miles of my house, I prefer to deal with Discount Tire Direct as I can
pick up the tires at their warehouse -- it's also within five miles of my
house -- and their prices are usually a bit cheaper. If you're really nice,
they will also mount and balance the tires for you as well -- and more often
than not, for free -- and it's my experience that they do a better job, too.
The local retail stores charge extra for mounting 17" or larger diameter
tires and on occasion, have refused to mount tires on my painted rims for
fear that they'll damage them ... the DTD people, on the other hand, will
happily mount tires on 20" (!) rims at no extra charge, if they even charge
at all, and have never damaged any my of eight painted rims.
Of course, if you don't have a DTD warehouse nearby, as I do, then you may
not have any choice...
