changing cam timing.
In my upcoming timing belt change, I intend on slightly changing the cam
timing.
What is the threshold for the ecu before the engine won't start?
What is the threshold before interference takes hold?
My old kh had cam timing retarded by as much as 1/8 of a turn. I should've
referenced it. For the sake of clarity, retarded cam timing means that the
crankshaft is ahead (further clockwise) of where the cam is? Retarding cam
timing produces more low end while advancing (crankshaft is behind the
camshaft) produces more top end.
If I have to rereference the distributor, I noticed that the rotor can be
turned (while the gear is fixed). Is this considered to be a provision for
timing adjustment? If not, or if yes, what's the proper way based on
altered timing? I mean, I want the reference on the distributor to
correspond with when cylinder #1 is doing what? I'm a little weary of
distributor work on my Audis, consequently, I don't know much except their
construction.
In addition, retarded cam timing produces more engine heat, but more nox?
I really don't have time to review (read that: look for all of my
emissions laws and causes packets from my engineering days).
