Pat,
Both before and after the rebuild on my 087 AT (89 100), it exhibited
the same problem. I could not get any *straight* answers from the
rebuilder (another long painful story) as to what exactly caused that
and other problems. After the rebuild, when the tranny was not
shifting when cold, they *fixed* the problem by replacing the valve
body (again). BTW, the rebuild cost was to include all hard and soft
parts if my tranny was used or a rebuilt unit. They tried to bill me
an additional $270. for a rebuilt valve body so: if their price is
accurate, and the valve body is the cause, at least you have an idea of
bust out retail parts cost.
The problem you'll probably face in troubleshooting this will be trying
to separate the truth from huge amounts of BS these shops seem to throw
at you. I hope you can find a place that has an incling of how to fix
the 087.
HTH,
Mike Murphy
