Re: Dealer records
<< The 90q I bought a few weeks ago was serviced exclusively at one dealer
for
95% of its life by the original owner. However, I don't know the original
owner, and the dealer won't give me any information about what's been done.
Can this info be brought up at a different Audi dealer? Anyone have any
experience in getting dealers to give this stuff up? The car has a lot of
miles, so a lot of repairs were done, and I'd like to know if the timing
belt was recently replaced before I replace it myself. I have the
maintenance log which shows the car was in for all the scheduled services,
but that still leaves a few years unaccounted for.
Thanks,
Paul

Paul,
Anything that Audi paid for (under warranty) is in their computer and should
be a matter of record for you, the new owner and should be obtainable with
the VIN alone, from any Audi dealer and particularly from the one in
question. I can't see why they won't print that out for you. If they did
non-warranty work for the previous owner, maybe they consider that as
"doctor-patient" privilege but I really don't see why.
As far as the timing belt is concerned, if you can't get the records, can't
you tell by looking at the timing belt whether its new or not? I mean, I
doubt I could, but I figure an experienced mechanic or list person could,
couldn't they?
