Mine works fine, the trunk unlocks with the key/button, and remains
unlatched, so it can then be lifted with the same hand, if needed.

The trunk lock would certainly be in the way on a pre-88 car.  For the
88 model year Audi moved the trunk lock to the right side tail light,
and added the 4-ring emblem to the center.

And... A real PITA... Makes a one handed operation into a two handed to open
the trunk. I liked the old way better. I would have been happy with the
"rings" off-center. I supposed there was an engineering reason, but none of
my old style locks have ever failed.
