Pat's Tranny Blues

Hi "Pat Dooley"

I had a similar problem a few years ago with an older tranny. I listened to
everyone about changing the fluid, using additives, etc. even pestering
several shops for estimates and then I was scared. I eventually spent
nearly $2,000 on the situation, of which at least $1,900 was unnecessary. I
went to an unscrupulous transmission shop in Rancho Cordova, CA, that didn't
know anything about my tranny; no problem, I paid for part of their
schooling (and mine). As a result of my complaints, and others', the shop
was closed by the California Bureau of Auto Repair, BAR. I'll provide the
name of the shop to offline requests to <superba@pacbell.net>.

Back to the ranch. My problem was a circlip that came off the 2nd Gear
Brake Band Piston, aka accumulator, and it scored the piston and housing
which caused the problem. Presumably, if someone had removed the 2nd Gear
Brake Band Piston and replaced the circlip, the tranny would have worked
normally after.

I didn't notice the year and model of your car, but perhaps you can
translate my problem to how it applies to yours. If so, and if that's your
problem, get it fixed and save yourself some $$$ and grief.

HTH.

Cheers!

Jim Jordan
